Many patients arrive at Synapse having already tried multiple preventive medications with incomplete relief or intolerable side effects. Others are managing episodic migraine and are looking for a non-pharmacological approach to reduce frequency before it becomes chronic. Treatment is individualized: point selection is informed by classical meridian diagnosis alongside the patient’s specific migraine pattern, triggers, and associated symptoms.

Acupuncture is a clinically grounded, evidence-supported addition to treating neuropathy and nerve pain whether conventional pharmacological options provide meaningful relief or if they’re inadequate or poorly tolerated. Treatment targets both the local nerve pathways and the regulatory mechanisms that influence nerve conduction and pain modulation. Electroacupuncture, in which a gentle electrical current is passed between needles, is often incorporated for neuropathic presentations given its evidence in nerve regeneration and pain reduction.

Sarah’s clinical training at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, one of the country’s foremost rehabilitation medicine programs, included direct experience with post-stroke patients in an integrative setting. We approach post-stroke care as a complement to, not a replacement for, your medical and rehabilitation team. Scalp acupuncture is the primary treatment modality for motor and sensory deficits, while body acupuncture is utilized to address additional symptoms including spasticity, pain, depression, and sleep disruption.

Whether a patient recently had a concussion or finds themselves suffering from symptoms beyond the expected recovery window, our focus is on supporting recovery and quality of life across the severity spectrum. Treatment prioritizes autonomic nervous system regulation to create the physiological conditions in which the brain can recover. Treatment intensity is calibrated carefully as patients often have heightened sensitivity and may require a gentler approach.

Chronic pain can present in many forms from musculoskeletal pain including back, neck, and joint pain, to fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome. In all of these, the nervous system is not only a conduit for pain signals, it is an active participant in their amplification and persistence. Acupuncture stimulates the body’s own healing response through increasing blood flow, reducing inflammation, and promoting tissue regeneration. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to chronic pain. We want to understand the character, location, and history of your pain before we develop a point prescription.

Not everyone who walks through our door carries a diagnosis. Burnout is a state in which the nervous system has exhausted its adaptive capacity. Anxiety is often the presenting symptom of the same underlying dysregulation. Acupuncture treatment targets parasympathetic activation and regulation of the stress response axis so that the body can return to and maintain a restful state.

Preventative and maintenance acupuncture has a long history in classical Chinese medicine by supporting the body’s regulatory capacity before the system breaks down. Many of our patients come not because something is wrong but because they understand that investing in the nervous system is investing in every other system simultaneously. Monthly maintenance sessions and general tune-ups are a regular part of the Synapse practice. These sessions are an opportunity to assess, regulate, and support. They can help with sleep quality, energy, fatigue, immune regulation, digestive function, menstrual health, hormonal regulation, and athletic recovery and performance. Treatment schedule is flexible based on your individual goals.
